Fun at Work

A theme of suggestions emerged around fun during networking and at work. Working for yourself can be a hard slog. It's 8.30am now and I've been at my desk for two hours, cracking through the week's many minor tasks before I settle down for the next few hours solid of writing about environmental consultancy. That said, I've kept myself cheerful with a few choruses of "There ain't nobody here but us chickens" - odd as it might sound, that's the sort of thing that keeps me sane.

Is fun important at work? I'd say, there's no point working for yourself if it's going to make you miserable; you can always find someone who'll volunteer to do that for you. But is out and out fun a necessity or will simple happiness suffice?

Is it easier to inject a bit of fun into the working day if you work alongside other people? Or is a culture of Enforced Corporate Jolity your idea of hell? And, apart from worrying the bin men with some dreadful caterwauling, how else can you find fun in a working day with just yourself for company? More specifically, what's the best fun you've ever had at a networking event?
