Women's Networking in Lincolnshire

My wish right now is for women's business networks to start connecting up, working together to complement what each other does, and offer the best possible range of networking opoprtunities for business women in the East Midlands.

That's why I'm excited about attending the launch of Jax Sesstein's new women's business venture, Re-solution Business Club this coming Friday in Boston, Lincolnshire. Jax has got bags of energy and some great ideas for breaking the mould in women's business - all the best, Jax.

I'm also chuffed that she'll be featuring Smart Women on her website - a perfect combination of online and real-world networking complementing each other.

Women's Networks - Coming Together

Here's a wish of mine... that the many and varied women's business networks around in Nottinghamshire would connect up a bit more often.

It must be getting on for two years ago that I was invited to a meeting co-ordinated by Business Link Nottinghamshire (as was then) with the aim of doing just that. But nothing seemed to come of it in the longer term. I've been meeting with one of the other women at that meeting since to talk over how we can make it happen.

That issue is just one of the things that fed into the development of the Smart Women web site. I'd really like to see it become a hub for all these various groups that seem to be popping up all the time. Where they can cross-fertilise ideas and events - or, at the very least, check on our women's events calendar to make sure they don't clash. Some groups are already seeing the value in this and I do hope more will join in soon.

The Case for Supporting Women into Business

That was the title of my presentation to Mansfield 2020 last week. This a great breakfast networking group which a fantastic turn-out. Irvin and Sam made me feel very welcome as I filled a presentation slot for Business Link who sponsored the event.

My wish for specialised women's business support is that it can be delivered in such a way that it is truly valued by the women who do, indeed, face particular issues and barriers to starting a business, but in such a way that "women's businesses" in general are not "ghettoised" and pigeonholed. It's important that the sheer diversity of women-owned businesses is respected and celebrated, as the Smart Women Network will be doing at our women's networking event on 7th May.

The Mansfield 2020 resulted in some interesting conversations that morning so I hope I've made a strong case for encouraging women to start in business. it would, after all, create a more diverse and vibrant business environment for us all to benefit from.

Business women often chip in their ideas about what they'd like from a networking event and I'll always take them on board. Many of those ideas - and many more - have been pulled together in an exciting way for the Smart Women Showcase-Marketplace event.

We looked at all the different types of women-owned business that could conceivably want to promote itself at a networking/exhibition event and have come up with a formula that covers off very nearly every idea possible. Constraints of the venue mean we would struggle to accommodate a fire eater or an abseiling instructor but there will certainly be opportunities beyond simply bringing a pop-up exhibition stand along.

If you want more details, then visit http://www.womengetsmart.co.uk/about/womensnetwork.

You can decide whether you want to use your exhibition space for a stand, a sales table, or to bring something more unusual along. Or book a demonstration slot, scheduled into the timetable of the event, and give fellow networkers a taste of what you do. More about exhibiting at the Smart Women event here.
